Caring for life /

Cartiere Carrara SpA along with Cartiere Carrara UK Ltd has decided to make a tangible contribution to environmental protection and to the transition towards a circular economy, sustainable economic growth, and social wellbeing.

UN’s 2030 Agenda for sustainable development and the Green Deal promoted by the European Union is at the heart of what we do. The main elements from both have been included in Cartiere Carrara SpA’s manifesto, and implemented in practice through a sustainability plan.

OUR MANIFESTO /

We have written a manifesto to represent the universe of our values in 10 points, expressing in concrete terms how we want to make a tangible contribution to environmental protection, sustainable economic growth, and social wellbeing, while preserving our connection with the territory and building relationships of trust with all stakeholders. This is our pledge for a better future, aiming to achieve concrete and measurable goals by 2030.

8. Sustainability culture

Sustainability requires individuals’ commitment to continuous improvement, but can be achieved only with the strength of collective actions. This is why we want to play an active role – within our organization and beyond – in the conception, dissemination and promotion of initiatives aimed at raising awareness and engaging other players in the value chain on the issue of sustainability.

9. Forestation projects

Over the past few years, we have planted 12,000 trees through completely self-financed forestation projects, carried out on our own properties. Looking ahead, we will continue the Paper that plants trees project, adding another 150,000 trees, promoting further initiatives in favor of the territory, and giving the community a dedicated training center focused on environmental sustainability issues and on the enhancement of the forest-paper supply chain.

1. Care for people and protection of rights

Creating a sustainable business model, for us, means generating positive impact on people and guaranteeing opportunities for growth and wellbeing, starting from the work environment, from health and safety, from complete respect for rights, and from the enhancement of individuals’ unique traits and talents.

2. Prosperity for the community and local territory

We want to strengthen the relationship with local communities through cultural, social and educational projects. To this end, we commit to developing a structured program of initiatives destined to the territories where we operate, and to measuring its social impact.

3. Value chain initiatives

We want our sustainability goals to be embraced and actively pursued by our partners along the entire value chain. To this end, we promote projects in collaboration with suppliers and clients who share our principles, and ask our partners to comply with our ESG policy.

5. Saving energy and reducing emissions

We make substantial investments to limit our energy consumption, favoring alternative sources that can replace fossil fuels and minimize carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere. Year after year, we increase our use of self-produced renewable energy and commit to progressively expanding the share generated from sources certified with guarantees of origin.

6. Circularity and regeneration

We commit to optimizing the use of raw and auxiliary material in our production processes and along the entire value chain, preferring options that are recycled and responsibly sourced. With the support of our suppliers, we promote the use of secondary raw materials deriving from production waste, and we aim to maximize the adoption of recyclable packaging, so as to reduce the share of non-recoverable waste under 35%.

7. Product life cycle and biodiversity

We monitor our products in every phase with Life Cycle Assessments aimed at reducing their potential environmental impacts. In order to minimize waste, we commit to developing innovative technologies and solutions that allow for the efficient use of our products. We apply PEFC-FSC® standards to everything we make, selecting recycled raw materials and certified cellulose, which respect the chain of custody of the original forests.
